Course Description:
English 5/6 is designed to prepare students for junior high English with a focus on grammar, composition, and literature studies. Using Shurley English, students will learn all eight parts of speech, five different sentence structures, and a clear-cut method for analyzing sentences. This course will also teach students the basics of essay and research paper composition. During the course of the year, students will read two novels as well. Grades will be given for grammar worksheets, compositions, literature studies, tests, and notebook organization.
Course Notes:
This is a challenging but achievable course. In order for the students to succeed, parents must read through the syllabus with their students each week and help them stay on track with their homework assignments.

$15 copy fee payable to the tutor on the first day of class

- The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom
- The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis
- *Optional: Shurley English Level 5 Teacher Manual with Jingles CD
