Course description:

In fourth grade English, we will be covering grammar, with a major emphasis on a working knowledge of the parts of speech, punctuation, and capitalization. Furthermore, we will be improving our writing skills using the Institute for Excellence in Writing as our core model. In this class, we will work on several writing projects throughout the year to help us meet this goal, including journaling.  Students will also be write one book reports to expand our literature studies and writing capabilities, as well as our vocabulary. At the end of the year, we will learn how to write a library research report.  In addition, weekly work will include various composition exercises.  The class will also consist of hands-on learning through games and activities to reinforce the concepts of the day’s lecture. This class is intended to build upon those concepts learned earlier in the elementary years and prepare the students for the more mature demands of middle school language arts.
