Course Description:
Kidworks History is a hands-on course designed to introduce young children to American History through applied activities and historical fiction. This course will spark your students’ curiosity and enthusiasm for history as they learn the subject in story fashion while participating in engaging materials.
This history course is a three-year rotational study of American history from Columbus’s discovery of America to the turn of the 19th century. The first year covers early explorers, American Indians, and the establishment of the American colonies. In the second year, students learn about the American Revolution followed by a study of the Westward Expansion across the continent. Finally, the third year examines the Civil War and the changes brought on by the Industrial Revolution.
Classroom instruction includes geography and timeline skills as well as interactive activities such as crafts, games, music, cooking, or dramatic reenactments. Homework assignments incorporate skills in reading comprehension and writing. Parents will learn history with their children as they read together the selection of biographies and award-winning historical fiction.
