History of Teenworks

In the fall of 1984, as Jeff and Wanda Burdick prepared to homeschool their own children, they became aware of the lack of support for homeschooling families when another group of parents asked for their help in teaching several junior/senior high academic subjects. The Burdicks sought to provide those services in their farm-home in Clarksville Michigan, and Teenworks was born.

The demand for academic classes grew and other families joined. From 1987 to 2003, the Burdick’s organization met weekly in area churches until they eventually purchased a building in Grand Ledge, Michigan. In 1999, Kidworks was added- a program for kindergarten to third grade. In 2007 they began scheduling classes on 4 different days, one for each age group, allowing more room for classes so that Teenworks could better serve the needs of an ever-increasing group of homeschool families- Midworks serving 4th-6th grades and Junior Teenworks serving 7th-9th grades.

In the last few years the Teenworks program has expanded to also reach dual-enrollment and college age students with Collegeworks- a program to assist students in the process of accelerated distance learning. We also added Webworks, Teenworks' online class program.
